None of this is easy! It's going to be trial and error, obviously. And I think it's very person-specific, unlike say, a sprained ankle that has a standard of care. There is no standard for this because it's too hard to nail down. Interesting that you were released for excerise -- was your swelling down and so on? Because my physical therapists (one for "reg" therapy after shoulder surgery and one for the edema) and I decided to STOP all excerise except mild stretching to keep my full exention after surgery and maybe some isometrics. In reality I've never felt "right" enough to do anything beyond limited daily tasks... and based on the last few days of me being back to square one anyway, whose to say what's right and what's wrong? I think this is going to be a matter of learning to listen to your body and what's going on with it now vs before. Of course, the signals are all scrambled, but that's just learning curve --- much like everything else!

Hello all I came here to get some info. I had cervical cancer and had a radical hysterectomy with a dissection of the lymphoid in the groin area. then I had to do 6 weeks of chemo and radiation. now my lymphoid's don't drain properly and I was told to do some physical therapy I swell up daily and even if I do the exercises I still swell up from light house work I believe I need to go find a specialist to see whats going wrong. the physical therapist had to look on the internet to teach me how to so the rubbing exercises to Deswell myself but I am getting frustrated the oncologist said this is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Hello. I had a therapy session with a certified lymphedema specialist. She showed me how to use a roll bar for arm exercises. Laying with the foam bar under my back (long way the same direction as my spine) I could do arm exercises to loosen the tightness under my left arm. Does anyone else with upper extremity edema from breast surgery use one of these? I might want to buy one, but I was wondering if anyone here uses one. Thanks.
