I am the step-mother(she prefers to call it) to an 11 year old beautiful little girl (whom I am raising as my own), she has lymphedema in her left leg. She has been thru many hard trials in her life from her birth mother abandoning her and being shifted from home to home to living with lymphedema since birth. I am hoping to educate myself on the basics at first because I have no idea just what exactly it is I am dealing with. An angry pre-teen for sure. I am in the medical field myself (a RN/BSN - currently in med school) so I understand a little. Any information, support would be greatly appreciated. She has just recently come to live with us on a permanent basis, so thats a blessing... I am just wondering about clothing and shoes. We ordered her shoes last year, but my questions are, are there any places out there for a little girl/teen to get 'cool' clothing from while suffering from this condition? I have so many other questions, this just seems to be the most pressing issue she has at the moment. My biggest worry/fear is her leg has gone for so many years without the right treatment...is the possible damage, growth reversable? We live in Rapid City SD (such a rural area), any ideas you could share I would greatly appreciate. Thank you.  less

I have found her a therapist here at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City SD, her name is Carrine, she gave me info so I could quickly educate her new school here in town before she started. She is taking to her new life well.
