Above all, I hope you really enjoyed yourself and let your beautiful smile rule the day! I know... I really hate the questions and the stares that are loaded with questions unspoken - from adults! Children are even more curious as they try to understand the world. I have faith that your spirit shone so brightly, your foot became a mere afterthought.
I am much older than yourself, but I, too, want to look and feel my best. Yes, we are women for Pete's Sake! Wearing my hose in public is not always comfortable for me emotionally. I tell myself it is for my health. I think of ways to bring attention to my face and other features - away from my legs. So, I wear pants or long dresses almost all the time. I also wear bright colored tops and tasteful jewelry. I'm years and many sizes away from shorts. But, if I weren't, I think I'd try to wear compression hose in bright colors or wear brightly colored sheer knee highs over my flesh colored compressions. I'd think - QUIRKY. Hey, if people are going to stare, I'd give them something to really stare at - at least on my good confident days. On the other days I'd just keep moving forward and be the best I could be. And yes, I have enough of my own "other" days.
Keep smiling! I have a feeling you are a very strong person - probably much stronger than you even know. You had the chance to influence a group of children this summer. What an honor! I bet they'll never forget you. Perhaps they will be kinder to someone else because they met you.
