Marge Naab → Allie C: Hi Allie the wrapping is going very well. It has been 2 weeks and the swelling is going down. Don't know how much longer it will be but when it is right time I will go to a compression sleeve.

So happy to hear that. I have a reduction phase that was around 2 months, so I know it can be a lot. But, so worth it! Even if it doesn't go down as much as you like, you know it's healthier.

I need surgery but they can not give IV in left arm. My doctor said there is IV in right arm to give me nova cane and left arm would have IV to put me to sleep but because of lymphedema I have to have IV in my foot. Has anyone else ever have this done because of surgery? Would love feed back!

How has the wrapping gone Marge? Have you seen any improvement?
Marge NaabSaw the vascular doctor Monday and lymph node has gone down in size. So we recheck it in 3 months. Starting therapy Friday sure hope it helps
Marge NaabThank you Susan for getting back to me. I am sorry treatment does not help you. I have a compression sleeve but it does not help very much. Maybe the therapy would help. I will post about my ultra sound on Thursday hoping lymph node is smaller. Thanks again

Will the swelling ever go down? If it is from an infection will it go down? Sorry I have so many questions but my vascular Doctor made it sound like it came from the enlarged lymph node so if that goes down will my arm? The thought of a biopsy upsets me. I will have to stop my blood thinner warfarin and that always makes me nervous. I am antiphospholipid so my blood clots without thinners. I will ask for therapy, the sleeve i was fitted for doesn't seem to be working. So glad I found this group. less

Some people get it under control to the point where their limb is normal most of the time and they just have to take precautions in certain circumstances. Others (like me) have lymphedema all the time and treatment doesn't help much. I pray that you fall in the first group. There is no good answer for people like me.

Started with my left arm it became swollen at first I thought it was a blood clot because I have a history of DVT and PE but ultra sound showed no clot. So I saw a vascular doctor who said it is lymphadema. Had ultra sound of armpit and I have one enlarged lymph node. Having it rechecked Thursday the 13 to see if it changed. If not or bigger then I will have to have a biopsy. Arm is still swollen very confused I don't know what to think. Never had an infection in my arm no cuts or bites. less

The most common is as a result of having lymph nodes removed from cancer surgery. It can also be primary, meaning that it isn't caused by any particular event - the person was just predisposed to it. That could well be your situation. When you go back for the recheck, get a referral to a lymphedema therapist. Regardless of whether you need a biopsy or what the cause of your lymphedema is, you need to manage the symptoms. They can help you with that. less
