Was at the Dermatologist Tues ( Mother, Father and Brother have all had melanoma's) and I asked her to check a normal looking freckle on my arm which is lymphedemic (is that a word?) from having 18 lymph nodes removed in 2007 from infiltrating breast cancer. Three were positive but the surgeon took them all while waiting for results (one Path. said yes, the other thought no the third confirmed yes) and te nodes were imbedded n my muscle so very hard to find and take out (so the surgeon said). Anyway, after she checked the freckle she told me it looked suspicious and she would have to carve it out along with another normal looking one on my ankle and send them for a path report. As I was driving home the lymph fluid soaked 4 bandages (they were small) and I am wondering if this thing comes back positive, what can I expect. She showed me the one on my arm with her "magic light" and this thing that looked completely normal to the naked eye had 3 tiny circles of dark gray in the upper right side of it. I know if I have to get more taken out I will have to see a plastic surgeon but since there are no lymph nodes there would I have to have chemo again? I am just trying to prepare myself mentally. Thanks for any info/insight, etc....Weatherly less

I saw lots of docs and was also tested for many autoimmune diseases with no positive results. A pediatric cardiologist finally diagnosed me (I don't remember how I ended up seeing him) and he had me fitted with compression knee highs. My current doc thinks I was born with a vulnerability to lymphedema, and that multiple ankle breaks in childhood triggered it.
Flying AND driving for long periods make my swelling worse. Supposedly its the vibration frequency as well as cabin pressure in the case of flying that exacerbate things. Aren't we lucky?
I have a friend that developed lymphedema in her legs after radiation treatment in her colon. Actually, the lymphedema developed post-treatment, and after she had a bad sprain. Again, the injury triggered the lymphedema after the radiation treatment compromised her lymph system.
Sorry to hear you also suffer with this, and hope it's being managed well! Thanks for writing.
