I'm looking into becoming a lymphedema certified therapist. However, I am physical therapist assistant. If my supervising physical therapist isn't also lymphedema certified, will they be able to set goals and add them to the plan of care so I can treat patients with lymphedema? Or do they need to be lymphedema certified as well?

    Robert Weiss I do not believe there to be any Medicare requirement for a physical therapist to be specially trained in lymphedema management. As I understand the rules your supervising therapist must be Medicare enrolled and follow the rules for supervising a PTA.

    Staff Certified Lymphedema Therapist I work in a facility where there are PTA's who are lymphedema certified and we also have PT's who are certified as well as they are the ones who have to do the initial evaluation and goal setting. I do believe, however, that a PT who is not certified...  moreI work in a facility where there are PTA's who are lymphedema certified and we also have PT's who are certified as well as they are the ones who have to do the initial evaluation and goal setting. I do believe, however, that a PT who is not certified can still do the IE with your guidance and then you would do all of the treatments which...
