    Donna,
Obtain a referral from your surgeon or primary care physician for an evaluation and treatment by a qualified lymphedema therapist. In general, you should have the swelling reduced by the therapist before being fitted for a compression stocking. The treatment usually comprises: 1) Manual lymph drainage and bandaging to reduce swelling; 2) fitting for a compression garment; 3) specific exercises with compression.

Have you tried the FarrowWrap or the CircAid sleeves? Easier to apply than bandages.

I am attending college. I am 36 years old and am a widow because of lymphedema. Before my husband died from complications due to lymphedema, he told me that I ought to learn the treatment and have my own business at that time we didn't know he was going to die. He died because his doctor didn't know how to treat his lymphedema, he kept telling my husband to have gastric bypass surgery that he was too fat, he wasn't diagnosed early enough, and was diagnosed by a dermatologist but it was too late-it shut his kidneys and liver down. He was only 43. I am going to become first a physical therapist then I will get my lymphatic therapy certification and in his memory my dream is to open a lymphedema clinic in my husband's memory.
Please pray for it to be a success for lymphedema patients in memory of my dear husband

    Thank you and God Bless

  • Max Salas Welcome to the new version of Lymphedema Community!
  • Steve Norton Fantastic. Welcome to the profession. I wish you the best in this important field and patient population.
  • Jenny Sterner Today, we lost someone from our community who meant so much to so many of us, including myself.  I will miss Pat terribly, although we never met in person.  The below is reposted from the Advocates for Lymphedema Yahoo group; it is truly a very sad day.   It is with great sadness that I must send this message. Pat O'Connor, Founder of Lymphedema People, Huge Advocate for those who have Lymphedema, etc., passed away this morning in his sleep, per a message that I received via the Lymphedema People Facebook Group page per his son. He leaves behind a huge group of friends and family including daughter - Emily and family, son - Patrick Jr and family as well as several sisters and other family members. Once I have more information in regards to funeral/memorial I will pass on all information. Nessa
