I'm no sure it was anything they did, that could be considered faulty or negligent. I've always had poor circulation. It appeared in the form of a stasis on the shin, below the incision, on day 3 - both times. I was moved to Skilled Nursing from the hospital, and stayed 3 weeks with the freestone, 5 weeks with the 2nd one. They documented it when checking me in - performing a brief exam that included checking incisions and for any open skin. I had never had a stasis like that before. My initial thought was that it was cellulitis - which I had had a couple times in the past. less

I feel less isolated, more connected - and more hopeful, getting information about ways to manage it I had no clue about. This group also gave me a list of practitioners I am using.

Judy TallantOh sure, it undoubtedly happened in surgery - but Not due to negligence, in my opinion. Maybe he cut into something he shouldn't have, and maybe it's just from tissue trauma and my crummy circulation - I don't know and I don't know that he can answer it... moreOh sure, it undoubtedly happened in surgery - but Not due to negligence, in my opinion. Maybe he cut into something he shouldn't have, and maybe it's just from tissue trauma and my crummy circulation - I don't know and I don't know that he can answer it either. Remember, understanding the lymph system isn't high on the radar of most in the medical field.
There are some good Facebook support groups, and I recently joined a really great one called Lymph Strong Inspiration Group - where I found a huge community of other like you and me - and people living with it and managing it for several years. I'm... less

I live in Washington state - recently migrating to the southeastern part for a temporary project, after years of living a bit northeast of Seattle. I am looking forward to learning, and generally feeling less isolated and alone. I'm in a transitory position in my life and will be settling after this project ends, in a location yet unknown. My first criteria is great LE medical access.
Even in communities with good programs, there's no central place where they are all listed. If I'm looking for a new location to call home, anyone have knowledge of great services anywhere in the state? Or even outside of the state - I can really go anywhere I want. My 2nd criteria is lower cost of living so Seattle probably not my goal. less

HI Judy! Here is the link for finding a therapist in your area through the Norton School website. http://www.nortonschool.com/therapistreferrals_form.html
Judy TallantSadly, of all the names on the big list I got, all but two work for a hospital and clinic system that don't accept my insurance. Of the other two, one is an independent but also doesn't accept my insurance. The other just retired. Woo hoo - yay me! Of the other two, one is an independent but also doesn't accept my insurance. The other just retired. Woo hoo - yay me! Not feeling terribly encouraged at the moment.
And so much for the ACA that REQUIRES everyone to buy insurance - yet those of us paying out of pocket are 2nd class patients to most specialties.

Checking the NLN - there's only two listings - and they don't include any of the Norton School graduates in the zip codes I used. So much for finding practitioners - they don't seem to want to make it easy to find them.
