Obtain a referral from your surgeon or primary care physician for an evaluation and treatment by a qualified lymphedema therapist. In general, you should have the swelling reduced by the therapist before being fitted for a compression stocking. The treatment usually comprises: 1) Manual lymph drainage and bandaging to reduce swelling; 2) fitting for a compression garment; 3) specific exercises with compression.
I had total knee replacement in May, and developed Lymphedema approx 2 months later. Is there any advice as to how to deal with this, diet, excercise, etc.? I am wearing custom compression thigh high for the affected leg.
Donna PayneI had a total knee replacement in May, and developed Lymphedema approximately 2 months after the surgery. This is all new to me, and I am still learning. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Excercise, diet, etc.
