  • gracie york Hi I have lymphedema of the lower extremities mainly, my mother, her brother, sister, and grandmother all died from complications from it. I have been struggleing for years. I now have garments on my legs that wear  24/7, it is a constant struggle now since I have congested heart failure too. Now my older brother has it in his legs too. It seems such a hard struggle, physical and mentally too. a few years ago I was admitted to the hospital were they took almost 45 of water off of me in 3 days. I think people who have lymphedema are the strongest people in the world, we have no cure, insurance companies don't pay for our garments or medical needs, and we still go on.

  • donna brown Hi!  I haven't been on for a while. I want to ask a question about surgery.  I have lymphedema in my right leg and left leg calf.  I fell and tore my rotator cuff and am getting  surgery on Feb 2nd.  Does anyone know if by getting surgery on my shoulder, do I run the risk of getting lyphedema in my arm?  The lymphedema is in my legs, but will surgery opoen up the chance of getting it in my arm?  I'm worried about that happening.  Anyone have any info with this question? I'd appreciate any help.

  • Tessa Warnick Any of you (L.E. lymphedema folks) out there have a desk job/career?  How do You cope with sitting much of the day?  Any of you out there stumbled across things that worked for you? [We're to not sit / stand longer than 30 min.] How do You bring that in to your work day?  95% plus of my work requires me to sit at my desk.  Small office... not many hallways to walk through to get movement.  (i.e. I elevate legs as often & best as one can in an office chair w/ a 'lil foot stool; my tail bone & hip(s) are raw/soar from odd positions in my chair, my feet/legs will go numb if I lose track of the time & elevate too long w/o getting up to walk around. - a pillow is the closest i've come to any thing that helps in the slightest.)      Would Love to hear 'brainstorming' ideas from others that deal with the same troubles! :-)

  • Kimberly Book Hello Everyone!  Thank you for allowing me to join this wonderful group :) I just received my certification in KC in December 2011 and I have a question for all of you.  My boss and I are putting together a form letter that we are going to send out to possible referring physicians.  I was wondering if there are any specific specialties that I should focus on (obviously oncology and a few others).  But I was wondering if you get a high number of referrals from other doctors that I wouldn't think to send a letter out them.  If you have any thoughts or comments let me know. • Carole Gibson Question for the experts:  I have lymphedema in my leg and will be going to a resort/spa next week where I intend to enjoy a Swedish massage.  Is there any problem and/or danger with having my leg massaged?
