  • Diane Harrell Hello to the Community, I was diagnosed Hereditary Lower Limb Lymphedema about 10 years ago.  I have also inherited terrible venous insufficiency and bulging varicose veins (thanks, Mom!).   Though vein doctors wanted to perform vein ablation therapies years ago, my limited understanding of  Lymphedema told me to steer clear of intentionally opening the skin for fear of infection.  But after a recent superficial thrombophlebitis, and a DVT the year before, the vein doc says I really need to get rid of these pesky veins.  He wants to perform radio frequency ablation and sclerotherapy on the lymphedema leg, and microphlebectomy, RFA, and sclero on the other.  So my big question.... is it craziness to do this in the presence of lymphedema, or is it common practice these days. The doc says there's no worries, but this is how he makes his living, so he's a little biased in my opinion.  Have any members been successful with vein ablation...or  have horror stories to share?  I welcome any advice!

  • Darcy D. Good morning all!  I've had a full node axillary dissection due to Metastatic Melanoma back in 2004, and have suffered Lymphedma ever since.  As I've gotten older, the Lymphdema has worsen.  I wear a custom made compression sleeve during the day, use a compression pump before bed, and wear another compression sleeve at night.  Last October I returned to work full-time for the first time in 14 years, and am finding that full-time work isn't great for my Lymphedema.  How have others managed working full-time with their Lymphdema?? I'm becoming discouraged and am considering returning to SSDI because of my health.

  • Marge Naab My lymphedema is in my left arm and I have carpal tunnel on my right hand. I need surgery but they can not give IV in left arm. My doctor said there is IV in right arm to give me nova cane and left arm would have IV to put me to sleep but because of lymphedema I have to have IV in my foot. Has anyone else ever have this done because of surgery? Would love feed back!

  • Maryjane Mazzarella I have had lymphedema for so long that the skin on my legs looks and feels like alligator skin.  Is there any skin cream I can use that will soften it or at least make the of the lumps and redness go down?
