  gary harriott My hope from everybody joining this site is that the Medical Scientists find a cure for Lymphedema. And also in the coming years that more awareness can surround this disease so it becomes more mainstream and then people can look harder for better treatments.

  gary harriott I would like to introduce myself to the this group...I've had Lymphedema since 1999, but was mis-diagnosed by the doctors. They thought there was another reason for my problem of unbelievable swelling in my lower legs. Fortunately for me in 2003, I met a...  moreI would like to introduce myself to the this group...I've had Lymphedema since 1999, but was mis-diagnosed by the doctors. They thought there was another reason for my problem of unbelievable swelling in my lower legs. Fortunately for me in 2003, I met a resident doctor who researched my problem and took incredible interest in me...and he discovered that I do have without a doubt Lymphedema.  Unfortunately for me at that time my problem started to get worse and I had to endure many admissions to the hospital. I was fortunate to find a plastic surgeon in 2005 who was willing to to some minor surgeries on me, but not enough. She did three minor surgeries on my right leg and then stopped. I was completely outraged by this and complained to her, but my complaints fell on deaf ears. So once again I was thrown back into uncertainty with know way of knowing if I was ever going to get help. But I knew I had to try very hard once again to find and convince another plastic surgeon to take my case on. I did finally in November 2010, with the help of a female resident and a male nurse who told me not to give up. Their help would prove invaluable as I met a plastic surgeon who worked at my hospital in toronto on a special unit. He did major surgery on my lower legs and I look and feel a lot better. So that's my story...I hope anybody reading my profile can share there's with me.  less
